1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Jason Robert Chadwick, trading as Valrik Studios (“we”, “our” or “us”), collects, uses, stores and protects personal information when you play Occupied on the Meta Quest platform.

We are committed to respecting player privacy and handling personal information responsibly, in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, as amended.

This policy specifically covers information accessed through the Meta Horizon Platform SDK and information associated with your in-game player account.

2. Information We Collect

Meta User ID

When you access Occupied, we retrieve your Meta User ID through the Meta Horizon Platform SDK.

This is a unique identifier provided by Meta and is used as your permanent internal account reference within Occupied.

We use this identifier to:

  • Recognise your player account across different game sessions.
  • Associate your player account with your saved information.
  • Retrieve and save your persistent game state and progression.
  • Maintain continuity between separate gaming sessions.

Your Meta User ID is stored in our MySQL database.

It is strictly an internal technical identifier. It is never displayed to other players, used as your in-game username or made publicly visible.

Meta Display Name

We retrieve your Meta Display Name through the Meta platform to simplify initial player account setup.

When you first create your in-game identity, your Meta Display Name is used to pre-populate the in-game username field.

This username is fully editable. You may change it to any alternative username permitted by the game.

Your chosen in-game username is stored as part of your player account and may be visible to other players during multiplayer gameplay.

Your Meta Display Name is not used as your permanent account identifier.

In-Game Player Information

Occupied stores persistent player information associated with your Meta User ID.

This includes your selected in-game username, player state, gameplay information and progression required to provide the game’s persistent account functionality.

3. How We Use Your Information

We process the information described in this policy exclusively for providing and operating Occupied.

Our purposes include:

  • Identifying individual players across game sessions.
  • Creating and maintaining persistent player accounts.
  • Retrieving and saving player state and progression.
  • Associating saved information with the correct player.
  • Prefilling the in-game username during initial account setup.
  • Supporting multiplayer gameplay and player interactions.
  • Maintaining the reliability and security of the game’s online services.

We do not use Meta User IDs or Meta Display Names for targeted advertising, unrelated marketing or independent user profiling.

We do not sell player information.

4. Lawful Basis for Processing

We process personal information on the following lawful bases:

Performance of a contract

Under Article 6(1)(b) of the UK GDPR, we process your Meta User ID and associated player account information because this is necessary to provide persistent player identification, account functionality and saved game progression.

Legitimate interests

Under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR, we use your Meta Display Name to make initial account setup more convenient by pre-populating your editable in-game username.

Our legitimate interest is to simplify the player’s initial experience. You remain free to edit or replace the suggested username.

5. Data Storage and Retention

Player account information is stored in a MySQL database used to operate Occupied.

Your Meta User ID acts as the permanent internal reference for your player account for as long as that account remains active.

Associated player information is retained only for as long as necessary to provide the game’s functionality.

If you request the deletion of your player account, we will remove the associated Meta User ID and linked player information from our active database, subject to any applicable legal retention obligations.

We do not retain personal information indefinitely when it is no longer required.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent or commercially distribute player information.

Your Meta User ID and associated player information are used internally by Occupied.

Where necessary, authorised server hosting, database infrastructure or technical service providers may process information on our behalf to operate and maintain the game.

Such providers are only permitted to process information as necessary to provide their services and are subject to appropriate confidentiality and data protection requirements.

Your Meta User ID is never displayed to other players or shared publicly.

Your chosen in-game username may be visible to other players as part of normal multiplayer functionality.

Meta’s own processing of account information is governed by Meta’s privacy policy and applicable platform terms.

7. Information Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect player information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, loss or destruction.

Access to player account information is restricted to authorised systems and personnel involved in the operation, maintenance and development of Occupied.

We review our data handling practices as the game develops to ensure appropriate safeguards remain in place.

8. International Data Processing

Occupied uses online server and database infrastructure to provide its services.

Depending on the location of our hosting infrastructure and any supporting service providers, player information may be processed or stored outside the United Kingdom.

Where international transfers of personal information occur, we will ensure that appropriate safeguards and legal transfer mechanisms are in place in accordance with applicable UK data protection legislation.
